(Facebook/Reign)Will Queen Elizabeth finally defeat Queen Mary?

Fans of The CW's hit historical drama TV series "Reign" have been quite expectant for the show's return with its highly anticipated season 4. In the midst of all this excitement is the brooding disappointment over the alleged news saying that the next installment could really be its last.

According to reports, there have been rumors pointing out Adelaide Kane's exit from the series. Kane happens to play the major role in the story as Mary Stuart or Mary, the Queen of Scots. The actress reportedly turned down the offer from the network to renew her contract to reprise the part in "Reign" season 5. As what had been heard, the 26-year-old is being wooed to appear in different screen projects, including a feature-length film.

With the monarch already out of the picture, it would be safe to say that the bloody rivalry between Mary and her cousin, Elizabeth I (Rachel Skarsten) on this show would ultimately come to an end.

Knowing the historical basis of the series, Kane's departure could mean the tragic death of her alter-ego.

It is said that "Reign" will stay true to the written facts where Mary ends up with her head rolling down the bucket, also ending the longtime rivalry between the two queens. But details from this publication said that while the show won't deviate from the source material, it won't however put focus only on Mary's downfall. Instead, the new season will probably be introducing a new adversary that would threaten Mary's hold in Scotland.

As for "Reign" season 4, which is now slated to premiere next year, it is expected that the show will pick up from where it left off in season 3. According to TVLine, a new Mary Stuart will emerge from the tragic death of her husband, Francis of France (Toby Regbo), but the feud with Elizabeth is touted to remain as such.

"Reign" season 4 is scheduled to premiere on The CW on Feb. 10, 2017.
