'Reign' season 4 spoilers, release date: Mary bent on avenging Lola's death
The final season of The CW's "Reign" will prove to be very dangerous and exhilarating at the same time as Mary (Adelaide Kane), the reigning Queen of Scotland, vows to avenge the death of her most trusted lady-in-waiting Lola (Anna Popplewell). Lola was beheaded by Mary's cousin, Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten), in the previous season, for allegations of plotting to assassinate the Queen.
Unknown to many, it was John Knox (Jonathan Goad) who orchestrated everything. He made Lola believe that Mary wanted her to assassinate Elizabeth. When season 4 returns, Mary will shun all semblance of any peace between her and her cousin for killing Lola.
According to the upcoming season's first episode synopsis, Mary will begin to have doubts about who she can truly trust in her court to include her own brother. She puts her brother James (Dan Jeannotte) to the test after hearing of his meeting with the conniving John Knox. Moreover, Elizabeth will strategize anew in order to get to Mary by agreeing to help Lord Darnley (Will Kemp), but with the hidden agenda of sabotaging the powerful suitor's relationship with the Queen of Scotland.
The confirmed cast members who will appear in season 4's first episode include Megan Follows, who plays Catherine, Celina Sinden as Greer, Craig Parker as Lola's husband Narcisse, and Rose Williams as Princess Claude.
Sadly, the recent promo of the upcoming season does not give any hints on the plight of Leith (Jonathan Keltz) who was last seen lying on the snow bleeding to death after having been stabbed by Martel de Guise's men. Before he was stabbed, he was intending to stop the Red Knights for good. The time that he was stabbed, Claude was busy choosing a dress for their wedding.
Season 4 episode 1 is written by Wendy Riss and Drew Lindo. The new episode is directed by Stuart Gillard.
"Reign" season 4 premieres on Feb. 10, Friday, 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
