'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' release date, news: Film unveils two trailers and character posters
The end is looming for the "Resident Evil" series, and Screen Gems is pulling all the stops to make it a big spectacle. Two trailers have just been released for "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," and they reveal some key plots of the saga's culmination.
The first trailer, dubbed "The End," talks about Alice going back to the Hive to settle the score. It also states that it is going to be the final episode of the saga, thus one can expect an explosive finale where it is kill or be killed.
The other trailer, named "The Truth," bears a more concerning theme. Alice has been informed that there is a traitor within the group, adding to the twists and turns of the story's plot. As to who the rat is, no one knows for sure.
Aside from trailers, character posters have also been revealed, priming the release of the film. Among of them are Milla Jovovich (Alice), Ruby Rose (Abigail), William Levy (Christian), Ali Larter (Claire), and Iain Glen (Dr. Alexander Isaacs).
The film is shaping up to be a battle of epic proportions. The synopsis reads, "Picking up immediately after the events in 'Resident Evil: Retribution,' Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity's final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began — The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse."
Releasing the sixth and final chapter for the story in 2017 seems fitting for the series' history, as it will be marking its 15th anniversary. It can be recalled that the "Resident Evil" franchise started in 2002, followed by "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" in 2004, "Resident Evil: Extinction" in 2007, "Resident Evil: Afterlife" in 2010, and the precursor to the last film, "Resident Evil: Retribution" in 2012.
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is set to crash into theaters on Jan. 27, 2017.
