'Sense8' season 2 spoilers: new face takes over Capheus' role
Amidst all the talks regarding the show and the sudden exit of one of its main characters, production continues for the second season of "Sense8." Recently, the cast and crew have been spotted shooting scenes on the streets of San Francisco.
According to SFist, the Netflix sci-fi series filmed in at least three areas in the city these past few weeks. After the Westerfeld House in Alamo Square, the next location was said to be the famous Castro Theater. The website reports that "no parking" signs were posted on the streets close to the movie palace on May 18 and 19.
Shooting in San Francisco is by no means the first for the series. In the first season, one of the areas used as a backdrop was Dolores Park, which is located at the western edge of the Mission District.
In April, "Sense8" was the talk of the town when Jamie Clayton, who plays Nomi in the sci-fi series "Sense8," came under fire for her controversial posts on her Twitter account about Aml Ameen's hasty exit from the show. The British actor has left the Netflix drama after already shooting two episodes in the upcoming second season. Toby Onwumere, a newcomer who recently graduated from UC San Diego MFA, will reportedly replace Ameen.
Although Ameen's sudden departure was suspicious enough, tongues started wagging that he must have angered executive producer/director Lana Wachowski in a personal manner, which may or may not be about her being transgender. According to Decider, fans have begun speculating that the British actor's exit may be "transphobic in nature." "Sense8" is reportedly managed by two transgender women, with a transgender actress in the lead role.
Meanwhile, Clayton's tweets, which were posted directly after the news broke, hinted that she was glad that Ameen was no longer part of the cast. In one of her posts, she wrote in all caps that Onwumere's entrance would finally let Capheus' character shine as it was meant to. Her posts also alluded that Ameen was not okay with the whole transgender thing going on in the show, which the fans were quick to point out. The actress, however, denied the allegations.
"Sense8" Season 2 is expected to premiere on Netflix in the winter.
