His father then challenges Soma to endure the elite culinary school that only 10 percent manages to graduate to prove that he has what it takes to be a full-time chef.

Flash-forwarding to Chapter 166, spoilers mention that the two will be cooking French cuisine with the main protein being venison. Being the bold and daring chef that he is, Soma uses some unusual ingredients that will shock his opponent and the judges as well. The gamble gains Soma an advantage because the dish turns out to be very delicious. Meanwhile, Eishi does not let his opponent's out-of-the box dish lower his spirit. He presents his dish, which is a sauce-based venison, and it turns out to be delicious as well. The final page is the usual cliffhanger that shows the judge touching the dish of the winner.

Others think that since the judge wasn't that too impressed with Eishi's dish may indicate that Soma is the winner because of the unusual and unique dish he presented.
