'Sniper Elite 4' release date, news: Rebellion introduces protagonist, new concept art unveiled
The genre of shooting games has become a very saturated arena, as one title arises every now and then. Therefore, it is a challenge to be recognized in the said field, and Rebellion Developments is doing just that with its upcoming title, "Sniper Elite 4."
"Sniper Elite 4" is a shooter/stealth game that combines knowledge of ballistics, sniper skills, and stealth in order to carry out certain missions. Such concept is not unique, and has already been attempted by many shooting platforms, thus the developers need to create an identity for the game. One of the many ways to do that is by creating a backstory.
In the last trailer revealed by Rebellion, the clip focuses on the main protagonist, Karl Fairburne, and his origins. He is known as a top-performing student among West Point graduates, especially with his sniping abilities that are said to be stuff of legend. His unique skillset makes him an obvious choice when the British government formed the Special Operations Executive.
The clip ends with the narration stating that his biggest challenge has yet to come, and will be plunged in conflict in Italy. That is where the whole story will revolve around and will develop.
Aside from the main character, players also need to know the kind of environment they will be playing in, and the developers are not known to disappoint. DSO Gaming has compiled a collection of concept arts depicting the terrain and location for the playthrough in "Sniper Elite 4."
The game's synopsis reads, "Covert agent and elite marksman Karl Fairburne must fight alongside the brave men and women of the Italian Resistance to help free their country from the yoke of Fascism, and defeat a terrifying new threat with the potential to halt the Allied fightback in Europe before it's even begun."
"Sniper Elite 4" will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam platforms on Feb. 14.
