'Sons of Anarchy' prequel info still elusive; spin-off show to be titled 'Mayans MC'
While the prequel to "Sons of Anarchy" has long been announced, information on the FX riders' series has been elusive. At this point in time, it remains unclear whether Charlie Hunnam will be part of the prequel to reprise his Jax Teller role or Brad Pitt will, indeed, be part of it as the father of Hunnam's role.
Earlier this year, Hunnam revealed in his interview with Men's Journal magazine that working on the set of "Sons of Anarchy" was difficult for him as he and the show's writer Kurt Sutter are at odds. In fact, according to Hunnam, while it's true that he and the writer never got physical, they were close to that point.
"Kurt and I never blasted each other in the face," Sutter said. "But, I will say it got close," Hunnam said in the interview with Men's Journal.
In a report that came out last March, it was allegedly confirmed that, indeed, there is a "Sons of Anarchy" prequel and a spin-off series, and Sutter was tasked anew to scribe their story. In the article, FX President John Landgraf disclosed that Sutter had already started working on the script of the spin-off and the prequel of "Sons of Anarchy."
Last month, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off has already been green lighted and will be titled as "Mayans MC," which is said to imbibe the spirit of "Sons of Anarchy." After all, the group has been portrayed as the rival motorcycle group of the latter, which was mostly composed of Mexican-Americans. However, as a spin-off series, "Mayans MC" will set itself apart from "Sons of Anarchy" in terms of the tone and pace of its unique storytelling.
While "Mayans MC" will be developed by both Sutter and Elgin James, the task to write the script will be endorsed to the expertise of James.
"I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice. Because I didn't think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice," explained Sutter.
While the "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off is already taking shape, fans can only hope that the same thing can happen to its planned prequel, too.
