'Star Wars: Episode 7' movie plot spoilers: James Bond star Daniel Craig gets cameo as Stormtrooper
The production team, including the cast and crew of "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" have been extremely tight-lipped about potential spoilers. Until now.
Simon Pegg, who is penning the movie's script and is rumored to appear in a cameo role, let it slip that James Bond actor, Daniel Craig would be playing a Stormtrooper. Entertainment Weekly reports that at the "Man Up" promotional event, Pegg was asked if he would be playing a Stormtrooper's role on account of his strong friendship with director JJ Abrams.
Pegg replied, "I wasn't a Stormtropper, Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper." Upon realizing that he had let slip an important spoiler, the actor quickly retracted his statement by saying, "I shouldn't have said". Clearly, he shouldn't have.
It has been long rumored that Craig would share some screen space in the upcoming "Star Wars" movie, given his relationship with Abrams and the fact that the James Bond actor has been dying for a role. Representatives of Lucasfilm have not yet commented on the slip.
While some believe that Pegg could have been joking with the media, knowing that such a comment would ignite media frenzy, others believe it is highly plausible. Entertainment Weekly points out that since Pinewoods Studio was used both by the production team of "Specter" and "Star Wars 7", Craig could easily shot a cameo while filming for Bond.
Metro reports that a source close to the "Star Wars" movie said, "Daniel is close friends with JJ Abrams. He asked for some sort of secret cameo role – and was happy to have his name left off the posters. Fans will love playing the guessing game trying to work out which covered-up character is Daniel."
Fans of the franchise will indeed be guessing which dark Stormtrooper is Daniel Craig. "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" hits theatres on Dec. 18, 2015.
