'StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void' news: prologue missions now available for all; Patch 3.0 tweaks user-interface and chat

(Blizzard Entertainment)

Patch 3.0 for "StarCraft 2" is now available and with it comes a heaping serving of tweaks, twangs and other wonderful changes to the game. But for many gamers, the best change is that every player now has access to the "Legacy of the Void" prologue missions that were previously locked and available only for pre-orders.

The "Legacy of the Void" prologue missions were released way back in June for gamers who pre-ordered the game. But these missions, Whispers of Oblivion, are now available to all players under the game's campaign. The missions focus on Zeratul and serve as a bridge between "Heart of the Swarm" and "Legacy of the Void."

Aside from the missions, other notable changes have been made like the Archon Mode now made available, a new user interface, some upgrades and bug fixes, tweaks to the gameplay, and a complete overhaul of the game's chat system.

Patch 3.0 places the Archon Mode in Custom Games on the official maps. The Archon Matchmaking and the Archon Ranked Ladder will soon become available for players upon the release of "Legacy of the Void."

The in-game chat system has been redesigned as well, with the chat now being one window on the bottom-right corner. Players will also be automatically logged in to General Chat. Plus, the maximum number of players in a chat channel has been increased to 200.

Players will notice that the patch fixes general bugs like the issues with autosave and disconnection problems during a replay. Frugal Fighter achievements are now rewarded properly and The Reckoning mission now displays the proper stats for Largest Zerg Force.

The developers were also able to fix interface problems connected to bookmarked games, games completed under 3 minutes and even issues with the Group and Clan icons.

More changes have been made courtesy of Patch 3.0 and have been enumerated in more detail by GameSpot.

"Legacy of the Void" is the ultimate chapter in the "StarCraft 2" trilogy and is slated to be released on Nov. 10. Luckily for fans of the game, Blizzard hasn't exactly closed the book on the "StarCraft" franchise.
