'Supergirl' news: Jenna Dewan-Tatum's role confirmed; new villain Red Tornado added to show
Jenna Dewan-Tatum was recently cast as Lucy Lane in the upcoming series, "Supergirl," earlier this month. It was announced that Lane would be coming to National City to "right a previous wrong."
Comic book sleuths easily discovered that Lane was known for her on-and-off again relationship with Jimmy Olsen. Thus, it seemed that Lane's addition to the show would be related to that.
Entertainment Weekly has recently revealed the first official image for Lucy Lane, along with a more specific character description.
Executive producer for the show, Ali Adler, revealed that Lane's arrival in National City will have an impact on Kara Zor-El. "We hope to explore the history that Lucy has with James Olsen- or as Lucy knows him, Jimmy Olsen," Adler revealed.
"Supergirl" will indeed tackle Lane's existing relationship with Jimmy Olsen, however, her character was not simply brought on as romantic foil, set to bring tension to Kara and James' relationship. Rather, Lane's character would serve a larger purpose. Adler also revealed that Lucy Lane and Kara would eventually develop a friendship.
Lucy Lane's larger purpose in the series seems to be linked with her father, Sam Lane, known to be a tough and outspoken Army General.
It was revealed during the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour that General Sam Lane would also be arriving in National City. The role has yet to be cast but General Lane would be appearing in the first nine episodes of the season.
General Lane is set to cause trouble for Supergirl.
Supergirl, on the other hand, will already be busy trying to defeat villains Hellgrammite, Reactron and Livewire in the first few episodes of the season.
As if that wasn't challening enough, it has now been revealed that another villain will be arriving in National City to stir up even more trouble for Supergirl.
Iddo Goldberg has been cast as Red Tornado, a nefarious and powerful android villain designed by scientist T.O Morrow for the army. Once Red Tornado escapes the shackles of the U.S. government, he sets out to create havoc and it seems that only Supergirl will be able to stop him.
Producer Greg Berlanti also revealed that since Red Tornado was created for the army, he will be affiliated with General Lane.
"Supergirl" will premiere on Oct. 26, Monday, at 8:30 p.m. on CBS.
