'Taboo' season 1 release date, plot, latest news: New trailer increases anticipation for the upcoming TV series
Anticipation is building up for Tom Hardy's upcoming TV series "Taboo" after BBC One released a brand-new trailer showing bits of the show's mysterious and dark plot. Hardy plays James Keziah Delaney, who comes home to London from Africa to inherit the shipping business left by his father.
Criticism and ridicule welcome James as he arrives in London as people thought he had died already. According to reports, James will unravel dark family secrets that involve a possible conspiracy, murder, and betrayal that will challenge him as he attempts to be successful in London.
In the recently released trailer, an unidentified character suggests that James ought to be hanged for treason and yet another one shouts he should just be killed. Apparently, James' return to London invited more enemies than friends. The show's synopsis describes James as a changed man when he returns to 1814 London after spending 10 years in Africa and he is out to seek revenge.
"Taboo" is created by Hardy, together with his father Chips Hardy and Steven Knight. Knight is known for his works that include "Eastern Promises" in 2007, "Peaky Blinders" in 2013, and "Locke" in the same year. Hardy and Knight worked together in the drama film "Locke," which Knight wrote and directed. Film director Ridley Scott comes on board as executive producer for the first four episodes of the show. Knight and Scott formerly worked together in the movie "Alien." Kristoffer Nyholm will direct the eight-episode series.
Several sources reveal that the cast will include Jonathan Pryce, Tom Hollander, Richard Dixon, Stephen Graham, Michael Kelly, Jessie Buckley, David Hayman, Jason Watkins, Franka Potente, Jefferson Hall, Ed Hogg, Leo Bill, Christopher Fairbank, Nicholas Woodeson, Lucian Msamati, Robert Parker, and Mark Gatiss.
"Taboo" will premiere on Saturday, Jan 7, at 9:15 p.m. on BBC One in the United Kingdom. The TV series will premiere in the United States on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
