'The Blacklist' season 3 episode 13 spoilers: Tony Shalhoub in running to play Matchmaker; someone back from Tom's past
"The Blacklist" writers simply love messing up Elizabeth Keen's life. As if getting pregnant is not complicated enough, Liz also has to deal with Tom wanting a second chance at a normal life with her, the knowledge that the Cabal was just the tip of the iceberg and Red trying to control every part of her life. However, things are bound to get messier with the appearance of The Matchmaker and the return of Tom's ex-lover.
Episode 12 of "The Blacklist" season 3 saw Red at his most overbearing - pulling strings to ensure that Tom (Ryan Eggold) doesn't get the job in Boston and moving Liz's (Megan Boone) neighbour to another unit so that the apartment next to her can be used for surveillance. It also introduced a dangerous group with a history that dates back to medieval times.
The previous episode ended with Liz calling an adoption agency to ask for information. It's safe to say upcoming events might make putting her child up for adoption look like the most logical move.
A synopsis for episode 13, "Alistair Pitt," states that Red (James Spader), Liz and Ressler's (Diego Klattenhoff) task force will be working together to prevent an infamous negotiator from uniting two rival crime families. But what would not doubt be more interesting to fans is the news that Tom's ex-lover Gina Zanetakos (Margarita Levieva) is back on the scene.
A trailer for the upcoming episode shows photos of people on wall and a glimpse of Tony Shalhoub, who's set to portray The Matchmaker. It's been reported that Shalhoub's character is dangerous not because he indulges in violence, but he matches people who can. This explains the feeling of urgency when Red tells a brown haired Liz that the Matchmaker "has resurfaced to reunite 2 lethal enemies." The teaser also showed a drive-by shooting, Samar (Mozhan Marno) looking through scope of a gun, Ressler's team crashes a room and people being gunned down. And in the middle of all the chaos is a shot of the "Monk" actor walking down a corridor holding a cat.
The short clip also reintroduces a familiar face - Tom's ex-lover Gina. She's shown kissing Tom before the scene pans to a shot of Liz looking troubled. The trailer ends with Red telling Liz he can protect her if she only asks.
Fans of the crime thriller are no doubt questioning why Gina has returned, especially now that Liz and Tom's relationship is very fragile. Is it possible that Red is behind her return? It's easy to see how Gina might be able to drive a wedge between Tom and Liz.
"The Blacklist" season 3 will air a new episode on Feb. 4.
