'The Blacklist' season 3 episode 16: Red hunts for a notorious secret keeper; Liz continues to search for answers about her mother
It was touch and go for a while, but "The Blacklist" fans are no doubt gratified that Tom is in the clear and he and Liz seem set to raise their child together. However, their blissful time together might not last long as Tom makes a risky move while Liz continues to search for her mother.
Pregnancy has done nothing to slow down Liz's (Megan Boone) life as she and Red (James Spader) take on the case of another blacklister in episode 16, "The Caretaker." According to a Carter Matt synopsis for the upcoming episode, Red links the murder of a State Department official to The Caretaker, a secret keeper for criminals. Red and Liz collaborate with Ressler's task force to find this blacklister and his collection of dangerous secrets. Meanwhile, "Tom makes a risky decision, while Liz persists on her quest to find out more about her mother."
What "risky decision" Tom makes remains a secret, although the IB Times had posited that it might involve his ex-girlfriend Gina (Margarita Levieva) again. Maybe he will demand his share of the jewelry heist or he might go after her for setting him up.
While Tom is conspicuously absent in the trailer for episode 16, fans are given a glimpse as to what kind of "impenetrable safety-deposit vault" the Caretaker maintains. The short clip shows an older man in a tractor. He's described as a blacklister who holds the world's greatest secrets while Red calls him the Caretaker. The Caretaker is seen digging a grave, which is apparently his secret vault, and is said to be getting ready to release some of those deadly secrets he's keeping. Ressler and the FBI are also shown about to enter a building and also trying to disarm a van filled with explosives.
The other big story of the episode is shown towards the end of the trailer when Liz confronts Red and accuses him of lying to her. The usually verbose Red looks nonplussed as she tells him "some things can't be forgiven."
The last part would no doubt have fans scratching their heads as to what Red had done that was so unforgivable to Liz. The safe bet is it has something to do with her mother, the mysterious Katerina Rostova. The enigmatic woman is apparently alive and had sent Red a painting in the previous episode that showed Liz standing by a grave with "Reddington" on the headstone.
"The Blacklist" season 3 is set to air episode 16 on Feb. 25.
