'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Red and Liz to forgive each other; Alexander Kirk's motives remain unclear

(The Blacklist /Facebook)'The Blacklist' season 4 premieres on Sept. 22.

"The Blacklist" season 3 finale brought a shocking reveal of Liz Keen (Megan Boone) being alive and having staged her death just to get away from Red (James Spader).

Boone, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealed how surprised she was when she got a call from series creator Jon Bokenkamp informing her about her comeback. The actress also shared that Liz's fake death may have been done to break away from Red and to look for the answers she needed about her mother and her past.

Liz has now realized that Red had betrayed her and lied to her too many times. Now that he's not by her side, she is free but only for a short time after she and her family got kidnapped by a man who claims to be her father.

At this point, no one knows if this man, Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen), is really the good guy or if he'll end up as the big bad for next season. Showrunner John Eisendrath says that it's possible Kirk will be the villain for season 4, but he didn't reveal much as his introduction in the finale served as the big cliffhanger for the new season. However, if Liz needs saving, Red should be there.

According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry spoilers, Red and Liz might get together again even after their chaotic relationship. Liz will reportedly forgive Red; at the same time, Red may find it in his heart to forgive Liz as well, even if he thinks that a staged death is the ultimate betrayal. The publication noted, however, that forgiveness won't come easy for both characters. Red will have to earn back Liz's trust by saving her daughter Agnes.

Then again, there's also that possibility that Kirk may not have bad intentions for Liz, if he is indeed the man who he claims to be. In that case, Liz won't need Red after all.

"The Blacklist" season 4 will return to NBC with new episodes starting on Sept. 22.
