'The Fosters' Season 4b release date, plot news, rumors: show returns late January

(Facebook/TheFostersTV)Jesus recovers from Nick's beating in "The Fosters" season 4b

Following rumors that Freeform has canceled "The Fosters," it was finally confirmed that the second part of Season 4 will start airing late January next year.

The news comes amid rumors that the show will no longer push through with Season 4b since the network was quiet about the renewal for some time. There were also previous reports suggesting that ratings dropped and Freeform may not be looking forward to continuing the show's fourth season run due to the lack of interest from viewers.

However, the show took to Twitter earlier this week, confirming that fans should rejoice for the show's comeback. "SMILE because #TheFosters returns on Tuesday, January 31!!!" the post reads.

It is expected the "The Fosters" Season 4b will pick up right where it left off, with Jesus (Noah Centineo) receiving a harsh beating from Nick (Louis Hunter). Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) was being stalked by her lover, Nick, and Jesus decided that it was time to stand up for his twin. However, things took a shocking turn when Nick beat up Jesus until he was unconscious.

Rumor has it that the plot for the upcoming episodes will focus largely on how the family will recover after Jesus' health scare. It is unclear how Jesus will recover from the hard hit to the head that he received from Nick, but fans should expect some emotional strides when the show returns next year.

Viewers may also get to see more of how Mariana will start dealing with her ADHD pill addiction. In the first part of the show's fourth installment, Mariana was seen spiraling down the path of her issues, and though not much is known about what the upcoming episodes will bring, it is easy to conclude that more of this storyline will be explored in "The Fosters" Season 4b.

How will Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Shaum) handle Mariana's declining mental stability and Jesus' health? Find out when "The Fosters" Season 4b premieres Jan. 31, 2017 on Freeform.
