'The Last Ship' season 3 spoilers: James is heading towards more trouble in episode 7
Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) may have saved XO Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin), but the Navy has yet to face its biggest hurdle in the upcoming episode of "The Last Ship."
In the episode titled "In the Dark," CarterMatt reports that the plight of the men of the USS Nathan James is not ending soon. They might have gotten their friends back, but a bigger threat has surfaced in the horizon. This time around, the possibility of succeeding is too slim.
Back in the United States, President Jeffrey Michener (Mark Moses) is facing a petition for him to step down from his position. The situation will further be aggravated when a secret is revealed in St. Louis. What can it be?
In the promo, Chandler is telling the leader of the pirates, Takehaya (Hiroyuki Sanada), that the Americans will not show him mercy once they reach the U.S. The Asian, however, tells them a scary prophecy. He says that it will not happen, because when they arrive in the United States, everyone will be dead by then. This stops Chandler and Slattery in their tracks. Is Takehaya weaving an empty threat or is he just playing mind games with the Navy?
Meanwhile, the episode will finally touch on what happened to Dr. Scott (Rhona Mitra) when she was shot by an Immune. During the season 2 finale, the good doctor's fate was left hanging. Viewers were positive that she would survive the incident though. When it was revealed that Rachel died, everyone was shocked. The person who perfected the cure never got to see others get well because of her effort.
Dane spoke about Mitra and her character's death with TV Line.
"It was bittersweet. She did a tremendous job. In two short seasons she left an indelible impression on the audience, and her contributions were colossal as far as the story goes. But it was the next logical step, I think, given the circumstances. That when everything is seemingly perfect and back to normal, 'life shows up" again,'" Dane said.
"The Last Ship" season 3 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
