'The Night Shift' season 4 renewed or canceled? Drew could have a happy ending
NBC's medical drama "The Night Shift" just recently aired its season 3 finale episode. It ended with a cliffhanger on TC and Syd's possible deaths. However, it is still on the verge of cancellation.
"The Night Shift" season 3 finale episode, titled "Burned," saw TC and Syd dying. However, the episode did not reveal their real condition. Meanwhile, Paul was disowned by his father and the rest of the staff in the ER are facing unemployment.
NBC has not confirmed the status of the medical drama. It hasn't announced or given any hint of a possible season 4 renewal as well. However, since the third season capped with better ratings, it is possible that the network will give the series another shot.
In an interview with Cartermatt, executive producers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah both expressed that they are hopeful for the renewal of the series.
Judah explained, "I have a document that is [about] season 4 ideas, like you hear a story from a friend, or you read something in the news, or you keep doing it. I mean, we definitely have an idea where we would pick up, and we even talked about it in episodes 12 and 13 with Gabe Fonseca, Brian Anthony, and Tom Garrigus [who were writing the episodes]...In season 4, we will pick up right at that moment with TC."
Although they are still uncertain about the show's future, they admitted that there were things they purposely left out. They decided not to put huge cliffhangers so that when the network decides to cancel the show, there is still some satisfaction left. Judah revealed that they are eyeing on a happy ending for Drew, Brianna, and Rick.
When asked if they would consider having a crossover with another medical show, like "Chicago Med," the producers said that they are open for it and excited to see how interesting it would be to work outside of their comfort zones.
NBC may soon announce the status of "The Night Shift."
