The Originals season 2 spoilers: Natalie Dreyfuss returns, 'witch prison' features in plot
During the mid-season finale of The Originals, Natalie Dreyfuss gave a powerful performance as Esther Mikaelson. The actress will return once the show comes back for the second half of season 2 for different role named Cassie with a "witch prison" story arc to be explored.
A video posted by TV Fanatic shows Cassie the witch getting familiar with Rebekah Mikaelson (played by actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers) inside the estate where several witches are held. The Originals executive producer Michael Narducci revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Cassie will be seen once the series returns in 2015.
"She has slightly different hair but yes, that is Cassie," confirmed Narducci, referring to the promotional video that shows a tease of the Harvest girl witch that Ester (Alice Evans) was able to possess upon returning from the dead.
Narducci added that Cassie's return will be far from easy, and that the character will experience post-traumatic stress after the witch was able to take hold of her body.
"Now we'll find that she was placed in this cottage for wayward witches that is basically a prison," added Narducci in the Entertainment Weekly report.
The producer explained the purpose of the mansion as well. Narducci revealed that witches who fail to control their powers are locked up in the mansion after being instructed to do so by their respective covens. The mansion also holds a spell that forces witches to stay inside without being able to free themselves even if they use their powers.
Narducci added that Rebekah Mikaelson will unfortunately find herself stuck in the "witch prison," at the very beginning of the 10th episode of the second season, and that Cassie will tell and orient her about the rules inside the mansion.
Actress Natalie Dreyfuss revealed in an interview with InStyle magazine that she sported platinum blonde locks when she was beginning on the show, and that she had to change her hair in order to adapt to the dark changes in her character's personality.
