'The Originals' season 3 news: Claire Holt reprises role as Rebekah; war between Mikaelson siblings and the Sire Line
Season three of "The Originals" premieres with its first episode, "For the Next Millennium," in less than two weeks.
It has already been revealed that season three will deal with the war brewing between the Mikaelson siblings and their original sires. "The Trinity," the first vampires sired by Mikaelson siblings, will be coming to New Orleans to settle a personal vendetta with the siblings.
The Trinity consists of Klaus' sire, Lucien (Andrew Lees), Rebekah's sire, Aurora (Rebecca Breeds), and Elijah's sire, Tristan (Oliver Ackland).
In order to delve into the history of the Mikaelson siblings and their sires, the premiere episode will feature a flashback scene. Fan favorites Claire Holt and Nathaniel Buzolic will be returning to "The Originals," however, only in flashback scenes.
Rebekah was originally played by Claire Holt. Even though Holt exited the show back in season one, the actress has returned sporadically to reprise her role. Currently, Rebekah is trapped in a witch's body, which allows a different actress, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, to portray her.
Fortunately, fans of Holt will be able to see her again in the upcoming season.
"Aurora is part of Rebekah's sire line. So we'll get to see some flashbacks between Rebekah and Aurora... that means Claire is returning. In flashbacks, it would have to be Claire," executive producer, Michael Narducci, revealed.
Narducci also revealed that they are working on bringing back Holt into the show, as long as her schedule permits. "We've got a whole flashback storyline that she will participate in, and then we have some ideas on how we might see Rebekah again in present day in both bodies. Not at the same time!"
The flashbacks in the premiere episode will also see the return of Buzolic, who reprises his role as Kol. Casper Zafer will also return as Finn, in his original body.
With the return of Kol, Finn and Holt as Rebekah, the imminent Sire Line War is shaping up to be an exiting and thrilling story arc.
To see how it all unfolds, tune in to the season three premiere of "The Originals" on Oct. 8, Thursday, at 9 p.m. ET on the CW.
