'The Walking Dead' season 6 spoilers: Does Daryl die after getting shot?
One of the most beloved characters in "The Walking Dead" just got shot. In the season 6 penultimate of the zombie apocalypse series, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) took a bullet from Dwight (Austin Emilio) and blood splattered on the screen. Whether or not he died is for the finale to answer.
There are speculations, however, that Daryl's fate may not be revealed until season 7. Reedus, in an interview with TVLine, did not make things clear, either, and left audience more confused than ever. When asked if his character is dead, he said matter-of-factly, "I can't say whether or not he's dead. But he is definitely shot."
But there is one speculation that he definitely wants to clear out: The blood in the closing scene is definitely Daryl's blood and not a walker's or anyone else's. Fans are commenting that Dwight might have changed side and decided to fire his gun on someone other than Daryl, someone out of the TV screen. This is based on Dwight's line, seconds before the episode ended: "You'll be alright.
Reedus said, "It's not a trick. It's definitely Daryl getting shot. I won't tell you where he's getting shot. But you see [Dwight] pull the trigger, and that's Daryl's blood."
Looking back in previous episodes, Daryl felt betrayed. He trusted Dwight, but he went on to stab him in the back. He stole Daryl's weapon and killed Denise Cloyd (Rosita Espinosa) with it. And Daryl blamed himself for it. He could only be appeased if he takes his revenge.
Why it is important that he go after Dwight has something to do with the bond he shared with Denise. As Reedus pointed out, "I think it has to do with losing Denise. He's just one of those guys where things just eat away at him until he has to do something."
His character also saw her trying to open up, which is one thing Daryl has not been able to do himself. "Also, she was [killed] with his arrow. In his mind, he let that happen. He feels like it's his fault and he wants revenge," Reedus concluded.
Watch the 90-minute finale on April 3 on AMC at 9/8c.
