'The Walking Dead' season 7 spoilers, plot: Director hints upcoming season is 'going to get a lot worse'
If the shock value of season 6 finale of AMC's hit horror drama "The Walking Dead" was not enough, then be prepared to be blown away for the upcoming season 7. Director Greg Nicotero said the upcoming season is "going to get a lot worse."
In an interview with Deadline, Nicotero revealed a few details about season 7. He said that Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) bears a huge weight on the show.
He explained, "If you really think about his journey in the comic books, he shares the spotlight with Negan in the comic book. Negan now has some ownership over what the show is about. It's the anticipation and the excitement of new worlds that we're going to, like the Hilltop, like the Kingdom, like the Sanctuary where Negan lives."
Nicotero also explained on one of television's biggest cliffhangers. He said that if they showed who Negan killed in season 6 finale right away, the impact would have been different. People are already expecting Negan to kill someone, so they decided not to show who would be the receiving of the attack.
The season 7 promo trailer that premiered at the recent Comic-Con hints that the group is struggling to move forward without having a heavy heart. It looks like Negan has successfully entered and conquered half of Alexandria. The group wants to be unchained from his powers, but it would be a huge undertaking for them.
However, it looks like the group will not only be having a hard time under Negan's clutches. There is a new character who could contribute to an even bigger trouble. According to reports, a new character named Brion is being cast and he or she is going to be an educated and cool-headed leader. It is not certain yet whether Brion is a friend or a foe, but the new character will surely lead a different faction.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 premieres on Oct. 23, Sunday, on AMC.
