'True Detective' season 3 renewed or canceled by HBO? what to expect
Some of the fans of "True Detective" were disappointed with its second season, mostly due to its writing. But did HBO secretly cancel the series due to the negative reception it got for season 2?
A rumor rapidly spread last week during the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 6. Apparently, HBO ran an ad before its debut, which showed "True Detective" being tagged as a "complete series." Although this wouldn't normally carry a lot of weight with it, fans began to speculate when other ongoing HBO shows like "Silicon Valley" and "Veep" were not labeled the same way. "Boardwalk Empire" and "Rome," on the other hand, were also marked as being a "complete series" and both shows already ended their run.
Although this rumor may be disheartening for some fans, there is also the possibility that HBO didn't mean anything by it. True Detective Rumors pointed out that since "True Detective" runs on an anthology format, the label might just be referring to the show's second season. Plus, the ad only showed segments of the second season of the show, which might be indicative of HBO referring to season 2 as "complete."
However, HBO has yet to confirm these rumors and the network has not officially renewed the series as of late. At this point, it could go either way. After all, the first season was lauded by critics and fans alike.
Olivia Munn managed to stir up a frenzy when she posted a photo captioned, "'True Detective' Season 3 #officexmasparty." The actress has not responded to the multiple questions regarding a third season. The photo also included Jason Bateman, Abby Lee, T.J. Miller and Jillian Bell. The group posed on a staircase while wearing winter clothing.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed, so it's best to take the news with a grain of salt. Regardless, fans remain hopeful for an official announcement from HBO about "True Detective's" renewal for a third season.
