'Vikings' season 4 release date, spoilers, news: Premiere date and first photo revealed; season 4 to run for 20 episodes
The History Channel recently gave their viewers a reason to celebrate when the network revealed the premiere date for "Vikings" season 4 via a teaser trailer. The network also unveiled a new photo that obviously took inspiration from "The Last Supper."
The short clip starts with season 4's premiere date, Feb. 18, 2016. It's followed by previously seen footage of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) telling Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) that he betrayed his trust and love. There's a shot of Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) while the seer's voice is heard saying that a woman will one day rule in Kattegat. Rollo (Clive Standen) is shown decked out in French attire, standing before a priest. He turns as someone shouts his name and accuses him of betraying his own kind. There's a montage of the different characters while the message "War never ends" flashes across the scene. The clip ends with a scene of Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) in ice covered water.
Aside from the news about season 4's premiere date, "Viking's" showrunner Michael Hirst also revealed to TV Line that the show will have 20 episodes this season, four episodes more from the previous seasons. That's four extra hours of "Vikings" goodness. However, season 4 will reportedly be split into two parts. The first part will start in February and will run for 10 episodes before going on a short break.
Fans were also happy to see the first image from season 4. In the photo posted by the History Channel, Ragnar can be seen seated in the middle of a long table, with his family, friends and even foes arrayed on both sides. It's clear that the photo was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper."
Interestingly, one of Ragnar's sons, Ivar the Boneless, can be seen in the photo. Fans will recall that the Viking king had left his deformed son to die in the third season before Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) saved him. Ragnar's oldest son, Bjorn, can be seen, standing beside him. It's been said that there's one person among the people at the table who will betray Ragnar in season 4.
"Vikings" season 4 will be back on the History Channel on Feb. 18, 2016.
