'Vikings' season 5 spoilers, air date: 'Dark Matter' actor Kris Holden-Ried joins cast
History Channel's hit historical action-adventure drama "Vikings" returns for the second half of season 4 this November. However, details for season 5 have already been revealed, including the names who will be joining the cast.
According to Cartermatt, "Dark Matter" actor Kris Holden-Ried will be portraying Eyvind in season 5 of "Vikings." His role is a warrior in Kattegat who travels in a new land together with his family to start a new life. Apparently, his character is very important to the story arc of the said season. Although there are a few accounts about Eyvind in history, it is interesting to see where he would come in the storyline.
Ried will be joining the new addition of the cast Jonathan Rhys Meyers, whose mysterious character will be introduced in the second half of season 4. Since the creators of the show remain tight-lipped about the role that "The Tudors" actor will be portraying, there are rumors that he may play the famous historical figure who fought Ivar the Boneless, Aethelwulf's biological son Alfred the Great. More about his character will also be explored in the fifth season rather than the remaining episodes of season 4.
Other speculations for the upcoming season also reveal that it may see the possible end of Rollo's (Clive Standen) era. Rollo's reign is not only ending, it is also possible that Travis Fimmel's Ragnar Lothbrok will no longer continue his journey. Meyers' rumored role may be seen taking over the throne and rule Kattegat.
Meanwhile, creator Michael Hirst revealed some spoilers about the second half of "Vikings" season 4. "Ragnar's story is the story of the Vikings," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's going from small beginnings as a farmer to an earl to a king. From very small beginnings to fighting for kingdoms and the legacy. And for the future. This season just propels us into a more universal kind of drama."
"Vikings" season 4B airs on Nov. 30 and season 5 release date has not been announced yet.
