'War for the Planet of the Apes' release date, spoilers, news: Caesar to become lord of all apes; film to be released on July 14, 2017
Director Matt Reeves' "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," the sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," earned more than $710 million worldwide in 2014. The science fiction film was also acclaimed by critics for its story, direction, acting and effects. It was even nominated for an Academy Award. These was reasons enough for a sequel to be produced. "War for the Planet of the Apes" is scheduled for a 2017 release, with Reeves back in the director's chair.
Way back in 2014, while speaking to Collider, Reeves mentioned that he wanted an open ending for "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and pick up from where it left off. He said, "We actually did have an ending that went one step further, and I realized late in the game, 'Wait a minute. I don't want us to be boxed in in this way. I think we should be left with a more open--knowing that we were going to figure out what the next story is--I didn't want to in a way narrow our options.' I wanted to open them up."
Seeing that the first two "Planet of the Apes" films were praised for their story, fans are excited to find out the plot for the third film.
Caesar will reportedly play kind of a different role. He was known as the chief of the apes. But in the upcoming movie, he will be portrayed as the lord of all the apes. At this point, however, there isn't a lot known about the film.
In the previous film, the human survivors and Caesar's forces seemingly reached a truce, but there was human reinforcement from outside of San Francisco coming to fight the apes. Whether the third film will pick up from where the second film left off remains to be seen.
Gabriel Chavarria, Woody Harrelson and Chad Rook have been cast as humans and Steve Zahn will join the apes, along with Andy Serkis and Terry Notary.
"War for the Planet of the Apes" is set to be released on July 14, 2017.
