'Wentworth' season 5 spoilers: Bea is dead; new characters to appear next season?
Foxtel confirms "Wentworth" will have a season 5, but inmate Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) will not be joining the rest of the cast for the upcoming season. Executive Producer Jo Porter confirmed that Bea was indeed killed off in season 4.
Fans of Foxtel prison drama series "Wentworth" were hoping for their favorite character, Bea Smith, to come back. But when the show's producers are set on killing off a character, fans can't really do anything about it. Though it was a risky decision, according to Porter, "Wentworth has built a reputation for risk-taking, high emotion and bold storytelling."
Hence, in this prison drama series, it might be best to avoid getting too attached to characters as producers could wake up one day and be in the mood for killing off your show favorites.
The producers were fixed on killing off such a well-loved character, even though it meant losing Danielle Cormack in the show. Porter explained that their team did it for the drama and that as producers of the show, it is their duty to keep audiences guessing and to keep them "on the edge of their seats." The producer pointed out that they didn't do it because Cormack was intending to leave the show and that they didn't do it because they wanted her out.
Porter had nothing but nice words to say about the actress. He even said that the show is "indebted" to the actress, as she had breathed life into this colorful character.
But when there's death in the show, there's always a big possibility of new characters. Some suggest that killing off the main character opens the possibilities to a plethora of storylines, including a whole new set of characters. In an interview with After Ellen, Kate Jenkinson (who plays Allie Novak) is open to the idea of her character finding new love after Bea's demise.
Foxtel is expected to release season 5 of "Wentworth" in April or May 2017.
