'Xena: Warrior Princess' reboot: 'It would still be cool to do it again' says Lucy Lawless
It is not a long shot to say that most people who grew up in the 90s have seen and enjoyed the adventures of "Xena: Warrior Princess." The show is so iconic that it is often credited to be the inspiration for other strong female leads such as Buffy from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and Sydney Bristowe from "Alias."
And it seems like in the following months, fans would once again see Xena in action as rumors of a reboot for the series have recently surfaced. While not a lot of information regarding the plot and casting has been confirmed, it seems like the original warrior princess is more than willing to reprise her role.
"Xena: Warrior Princess," which first aired in 1995, is an American fantasy show created by Robert Tapert. It follows the titular Xena as she seeks forgiveness for her past by helping those who cannot defend themselves.
During a panel discussion that was attended by Lucy Lawless last Comic-Con, the actress revealed that she has been working towards a "Xena" reboot for years.
"I've been pitching that, actually. The fans really do want that, and I've met some people who've crowdfunded some things, and I'm just like, 'Why don't we just do that?'"
She has also expressed during the same panel that should the series be greenlighted, she has no qualms playing the princess once again.
"It's still about who owns the rights to 'Xena.' But it would still be cool to do it again with Renée [O'Connor], me, Ted [Raimi], and Bruce. It'd be a fun little gig, but what that is I don't really know."
Rumors of a reboot were only fuelled by Lawless' comment even further with fans of the show convinced that the series is already in production and it would not be too long until the series debuts. Unfortunately, Lawless clarified her statement on her official Twitter account last July 21, 2016.
"Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage," read Lawless' update.
No word or confirmation for a "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot has been reported since.
