'Amityville: The Awakening' release date, news: Why the horror flick keeps getting its launch date pushed back

(YouTube/ Horror Trailers)"Amityville: The Awakening" is a story about a family unsuspectingly residing in a haunted house.

People say that suspense adds more drama to the eventual release of a film, but it seems as if The Weinstein Company has done too much postponing for the launch of "Amityville: The Awakening." This has gotten people wondering what is causing the huge delay.

"Amityville: The Awakening" tells the true story of a family that moved to the infamous haunted house in Amityville, New York. Belle (Bella Thorne), her younger sister Juliet (Mckenna Grace), and her comatose twin brother James (Cameron Monaghan), along with their single mother Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh), have unsuspectingly resided in the mentioned house to save on expensive medical bills. Little do they know that they went into a far darker place than where they were before.

In the trailer, Belle begins to suspect that there is a supernatural disturbance going on after experiencing several nightmares, seeing things, and witnessing his brother's unexplained regaining of consciousness. At school, she learns that the house has a terrifying history, where the previous owner of the house killed everyone after he was told by an unknown force to do so.

Despite the horrifying yet appealing concept, it is weird that the date of the movie keeps getting pushed back. It was first originally slated for Jan. 2, 2015, but then was later postponed time and again. The most recent date it was supposed to air was April 1, 2016, but then got pushed back yet again to Jan. 6, 2017.

According to Auto World News, the Weinstein Company's decision to bring "Amityville: The Awakening" to another release date is to focus on "Sing Street," a musical that was slated for April as well. They decided one had to be moved so their two movies won't be competing against each other.

What's interesting, though, is that January 2017 will be filled with a lot of movies as well, with "Underworld: Blood Wars" sharing the same release date. The month is also going to be a race of horror/thriller movies such as "The Bye Bye Man," "Sleepless," and "Split."

Fans can only hope that it doesn't get moved again, but, given the history, who's to say?
