Unlike some of today's stars, who immediately got their big break, actress Anne Hathaway revealed that it has been a tough ride for her. Hathaway first breakthrough came in the industry with her role in Disney's 'The Princess Diaries' which dramatically shifted her career, landing her name among Hollywood's A-list celebrities.

Speaking with Harper's Bazaar, Hathaway revealed that it wasn't an easy journey for her, with critics not afraid to speak their minds against how she looked.

"Even though I've had great success, touch wood, it hasn't been easy," Hathaway revealed in the interview with Harper's Bazaar.

"A lot of people have told me, 'You're not this and so can't play that,' and I can't tell you the amount of times I've been told I'm not sexy," continued Hathaway.

With the roles that the actress has been playing lately, it's pretty evident how she became comfortable in her own skin.

In 2013, Hathaway dodged a couple of Oscar-related controversies, when she was labeled as being unauthentic because of her acceptance speech. Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Les Miserables.

"One of the things I've been accused of is being inauthentic. And they were right — but not for the reason they thought," said Hathaway.

Hathaway even opened up about the issue that surrounded a particular dress choice that showed a little more than she expected.

"I look in the mirror, turn to Adam (her husband,) and say, 'It looks like my nipples are hard.' He says, 'You look beautiful. Your nipples look pointy. The red carpet's about to close. We gotta go," Hathaway explained.
