'Attack on Titan' season 2 release date rumored for January 2017: what to expect

(Funimation Official)'Attack on Titan' season 2 release is pushed back again.

Fans of the hit anime "Attack on Titan" have been excited and looking forward to catch its second season on their television screens. However, new rumors suggest that the release date will be pushed back again.

According to reports, "Attack on Titan" season 2 will no longer premiere this year. Apparently, Spanish home video and streaming distributor SelectaVision has speculated that the anime will be delayed for the second time. The claim was posted as a comment on one of its Facebook posts.

Manga publisher Kodansha has reportedly confirmed that the anime would not be able to premiere this year. However, the team behind the anime promises to finish it before their target release in January next year.

The rumor mill also speculates that the reason behind the delay is the anime newcomer by the Wit Studio, titled "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress." This is the newest project by the well-known anime director who also directs "Attack on Titan" anime, Tetsuro Araki.

The upcoming project by Araki reportedly has some similarities with Hajime Isayama's creation. Both animes have elements of fighting off monsters, while the leads are infected. This new anime will run for 12 episodes only.

The upcoming season of "Attack on Titan" is rumored to follow the story of the Trainees Squad as they battle against the Titans. Levi Ackerman might also die next season. Before his death, he will be seen attempting to save the freshmen members of the squad.

Moreover, it is believed that the Reiss family is actually the true royal family and they are capable of transforming into Titans. An ape-like Titan who can speak is speculated to appear in the upcoming season as well. The next installment will also unveil the real identity of the Colossal and Armored Titans.

Other predictions also suggest that the all-new season will explore Eren's past since it might have some clues on the history of titans.
