'Avatar 2' release rumors: sequel delayed due to complicated development process?

(Facebook / Avatar)James Cameron's "Avatar" holds the record for highest-grossing film and three sequels are currently in the works.

James Cameron has once again done the impossible by pushing "Avatar 2" to a possible late 2018 release, and recently, buzz is hot on the rumor that the famous director delayed the sequel for another year due to the alleged massive and complicated process involved in the movie's development.

Chat Sports Net notes that Cameron's decision might not have only been affected by the assurance of a hit film without competition against the next "Star Wars" release but it might also have been a result of difficulties behind the scenes.

Previously, Cameron said he has been working on the Avatar world with a team of screenwriters who are currently beautifying the magical realm further. However, fans have started to speculate that Cameron may actually be experiencing too much pressure from the massive workload ahead as he recently announced that instead of just the sequel and two other films, a fifth "Avatar" movie will be in the making.

According to Master Herald, there were reports last year suggesting that the development team behind "Avatar 2" has been having difficulties in reducing the script to fit three films, which is allegedly the reason why Cameron added another one to lessen the burden.

The confusion started when Cameron announced last month that the franchise is headed for one massive production stage. According to Slash Film, the filmmaker said, "It's not back-to-back. It's really all one big production. It's more the way you would should a miniseries. So we'll be shooting across all [Avatar scripts] simultaneously."

He further explained that while it will be the most challenging stuff he will ever indulge in, he is looking at a pattern that fits "all three Godfather films at the same time."

As fans already know, the "Avatar" franchise uses a lot of computer technology and computer-generated imaging, but Cameron clarified that with the sequels, he would prefer "real-world stuff" wherein more photography will be featured to shine the spotlight on lighting and shot concept-making.

"Avatar 2" is expected to release sometime late 2018, while the third, fourth, and fifth movies will be out in 2020, 2022, and 2023 respectively.
