'Avatar 2' rumors: Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang returning?

(Reuters)

It has already been reported that 2009's highest-grossing film, "Avatar" is going to be followed by three more sequels, the first of which is coming in 2017. Amidst reports of a delay in production and release date, fans of the original are looking forward to whatever detail they can get their hands on about "Avatar 2."

"Avatar 2" will reportedly cover the Pandora underwater ecosystem and it is this change that is causing a bit of snag in production. Wanting to capture the environment as best as he could, director James Cameron is set on applying a new technology in directing the next movie.

While all of these have been in the grapevine for quite some time, new reports hint on casting updates. Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington have previously confirmed that they are reprising their roles as Na'vi huntress Neytiri and the paraplegic former Marine Jake Scully. And Latino's Health even reports that Neytiri will make an appearance in all sequels.

The website also says that even though their characters have died in the first movie, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will be returning as Avatar Program head Dr. Grace Augustine and mining operations head Colonel Miles Quaritch.

In an earlier interview with the late composer James Horner, he revealed that Cameron is working on four scripts for the sequels but is trying to cut it down to three. If the condensed version of the scripts do not work, moviegoers just might get an "Avatar 5" along with 2, 3, and 4, which were previously announced.

But no matter how many sequels there will be, one thing is for certain and that is all movies will be tied to each other and will feel like one liquid story. As Fox News Latino reports, Cameron wants movie fans to feel as if they got an end to one great story when all the sequels roll out.

As of now, none of these rumors and speculations about "Avatar 2" and the remaining sequels are etched in stone. Stay tuned for more updates on the next "Avatar" movie.
