'Avengers: Infinity War' rumors: Doctor Strange to trick Thanos into giving him the Infinity Stone-studded gauntlet

(Facebook/Doctor Strange)Rumors claim that Doctor Strange will trick Thanos into surrendering his powerful gauntlet by trapping him in a time loop.

Although Benedict Cumberbatch hinted that his Doctor Strange character may serve as the bridge to reconcile Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) in "Avengers: Infinity War," his presence in the said upcoming Marvel movie will be more than that. If the latest reports are to be believed, the Sorcerer Supreme's smartness may come into play in the movie as it is suspected that he will bargain with Thanos (Josh Brolin) in order to save earth from damnation.

According to the latest reports, there is a possibility for Doctor Strange to bargain with Thanos in "Avengers: Infinity War" as the Sorcerer Supreme also did the same in his standalone movie when he tricked Dormammu (Jonathan Adams) in "Doctor Strange" by bargaining with him.

To the uninitiated, Doctor Strange tricked Dormammu by setting an infinite time loop where the villain cannot defeat him — thanks to the time stone in possession of the Sorcerer Supreme. This, eventually, leads the villain into conceding and leaving earth.

However, things will be different in "Avengers: Infinity War." As the movie will feature Thanos wearing a gauntlet with all the Infinity Stones in it, and the only way for the gauntlet to be powerless is to have, at least, one of the stones removed from it, it is suspected that Doctor Strange will resort anew to the use of a time loop where he will trap the alien villain and force him to hand over the gauntlet to him. Once without the gauntlet, it will be easier for the Avengers to defeat Thanos, according to reports.

Interesting as the discussed theory may sound, unfortunately, it is nothing but a speculation at this point in time. Hence, fans must take it with a grain of salt for now.

In his interview with Yahoo! last October, Cumberbatch revealed that his Doctor Strange character is neither on the side of Captain America nor Iron Man, and may even bridge the two to reconcile following the events in "Captain America: Civil War." However, given his abilities, it is certain that Doctor Strange will be more than just a peace mediator between the warring superheroes in "Avengers: Infinity War."

"His job title is defender of the fabric of reality. I mean, he fights other dimensional threats that are beyond the perceptions of that very potent squabble (between Cap and Iron Man), and I'd like to think he's going to help them both, rather than take sides," Cumberbatch said.

"Avengers: Infinity War" arrives in theaters on May 4, 2018.
