'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' update: Henry Cavill thinks comic book movie fatigue is 'expected'
Looking at the remaining of this year and next year's movie line-up, it seems that theater goers will have a lot of superhero movies to look forward to. Does this mean people are headed to superhero and comic book movie fatigue? Superman thinks it's just expected.
In a press interview with Juado for his latest spy movie, "Man from U.N.C.L.E.," Henry Cavill was asked about superhero fatigue amid the proliferation of superhero movies next year and the years after that. Cavill, who plays Superman in next year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," says it might not just be true about superhero movies. He says it is only something that can be expected of anything that's prevalent in media.
Cavill answers, "I think it's anything which is prevalent and on top people are going to complain about. At the moment, the superhero genre is the most prevalent genre out there despite the fact that the spy genre is so strong this year. But that's just the nature of it. It's one of those decade long genres, the superhero thing, which is going to keep on going and people will complain about it all the time, of course."
What can stop this fatigue, adds Cavill, is the fact that each year, the secondary changes. He states that in 2015, people has various spy movies to choose from. Next year, when DC and Marvel come out with their barrage of comic book movies, people will have a different genre to balance those out.
It is obvious why Cavill is rooting for superhero and comic book movies. His "Dawn of Justice" is not the last superhero movie from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. Later in 2016, "Suicide Squad" is hitting the big screen and Superman is also expected to resurface in two "Justice League" movies. And despite rumors that standalone "Superman" films are on hold, fans are still rooting for at least one to be announced, especially if "Batman v Superman" does well in the box office.
Are people really tired of superhero movies? Or is Hollywood only answering their clamor for more? The answer lies on how well the upcoming superhero movies will do.
Cavill's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," with Ben Affleck as Batman, rolls out to cinemas on March 25, 2016.
