In episode 5 of HBO's "Big Little Lies," titled "Once Bitten," Madeline Martha Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon) will receive good news from her director, Joseph Bachman (Santiago Cabrera). In spite of the wonderful development, she is left wondering about his cold behavior towards her.

The synopsis for the upcoming episode reveals that Principal Nippal (P.J. Byrne) and Ms. Barnes (Virginia Kull) will reveal their findings about Ziggy (Iain Armitage) and Amabella (Ivy George) to Jane (Shailene Woodley). Celeste (Nicole Kidman), on the other hand, will be asked a lot of questions during therapy with Dr. Reisman (Robin Weigert), who attempts to unravel more information about her husband.

For viewers who have not read Liane Moriarty's novel from which the show's story is adapted from, the season premiere titled "Someone's Dead" will continue to be a chilling mystery. Aside from the fact that someone is presumed to be dead, an even bigger question remains unanswered until it is finally revealed in succeeding episodes. Who killed who?

What is clear, however, is that the show kicks off with news of a murder during a fundraising event that happened in the school. Flashbacks of the incident were shown, but it was not revealed who got murdered or who was responsible for it.

In the first episode, Jane moves into the town of Monterey together with her son, Ziggy, and lives in a one bedroom house. Jane can be described as a bit reserved and mysterious, and she is later seen hiding a gun under her pillow before she proceeds to go to sleep.

She is befriended by Madeline, who has two daughters from her previous marriage. Madeline's ex-husband is known as Nathan (James Tupper). It is later revealed that Madeline is struggling to cope with the idea that her ex-husband, who married a younger Yoga instructor played by Zoe Kravitz, has relocated to the same town. She further feels threatened by the possibility of losing her children to Nathan's new wife.

Celeste is Madeline's best friend, and she is married to the seemingly perfect husband Perry played by Alexander Skarsgard. The couple has twin sons that go to the same school as the children of Madeline and Jane. While Celeste's relationship with her husband initially looked almost perfect, viewers later found out that it is not always that way as he starts to be abusive towards her.

According to E! News, the recent episode of the new TV series seemed to hint at Celeste and Perry's involvement in the incident during trivia night as the former's behavior started to change.

"Big Little Lies" season 1 episode 2 airs on Sunday, March 19, at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO.
