'Borderlands 3' release date updates: Game to have an open-world format; fans hoping for more guns, vehicles, and NPCs

"Borderland" fans might have been bummed out that the game's third installation was a no-show at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). But on a good note, the release of "Battleborn" means that work on "Borderlands 3" can finally commence.
The existence of "Borderlands 3" was first revealed back in April when Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced that "Battleborn's" art director is set to start on the next "Borderland's" project. This was good news for gamers who have been waiting years for the next installation of the popular action role-playing first-person shooter game.
No mention has been made since about this stylized Western shootout, even during E3 2016. But fans know that Gearbox and 2K Games were more focused on releasing the "Battleborn" DLC. And now that it's out, the developers can now turn their attention to "Borderlands 3." But what can fans expect from the upcoming game?
At the moment, nothing much. Pitchford revealed during PAX East that there's still a lot of work that needs to be done with "Borderlands 3." But he also shared that the game will be designed specifically for the new game consoles.
Fans expect that "Borderlands 3" will have a better and more evolved gameplay than its predecessor. There are even reports that the game will be feature a "true" open world, especially since it will be running on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
Gamers are also expecting better vehicles and more powerful guns. Since "Borderlands 3" is a straight shoot-em-up Western, it makes sense for the game developer to offer players more weapon choices that they can customize. Same goes for their vehicles. Some players are even crossing their fingers that Gearbox will add options for a companion or a home base.
More fun and kickass non-playable characters are also expected in "Borderlands 3." After all, gamers quickly fell in love with Handsome Jack, Ellie, Hammerlock, Moxxi, and Tiny Tina. Adding another twisted but lovable NPC will bring nothing but good vibes for the game.
"Borderlands 3" is expected to be released sometime in 2017.
