'Chicago Fire' season 5 updates: Star Jesse Spencer talks Casey and Dawson's future and running for political office

There's about a month of waiting left to do before "Chicago Fire" returns for a fifth season. But when it returns, fans can expect new challenges awaiting Dawson and Casey, Kidd and Severide, Chief Boden and Borelli.
The show's season 4 finale ended on an ominous note, with Kidd's (Miranda Rae Mayo) unhinged ex-husband sitting in her living room with a knife, while she and Severide (Taylor Kinney) are in the bedroom. Fans have no inkling as to how this impending confrontation will go down but, according to Jesse Spencer, it won't be resolved immediately.
Aside from that little tidbit, Spencer also gave fans some hints as to what the upcoming season has for him and his lady love, Dawson (Monica Raymund). The actor told Access Hollywood that now that the two have a child, they would have to figure out how to make that work. So either "Casey moves to an office job which is very safe and secure or Dawson moves."
Fans shouldn't expect the Alderman to further his political career either. When asked about a possible Senate run, Spencer replied with an empathic "please, no," adding that going forward with a political career isn't in anyone's best interest.
As for the rest of Firehouse 51, Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) will apparently still be feeling Borelli's (Steven R. McQueen) animosity. Fans will recall that Jimmy is still grieving over the loss of his brother and blames the chief for the death. Season 5 will also reveal two budding writers among the firefighters. Showrunner Matt Olmsted told EW that "Brett and Mouch join up to write this firefighter romance lit, which is its own real genre that Mouch gets wind of." It would be interesting to see how Platt and the others will react when this little secret comes out.
"Chicago Fire" season 5 will be returning to NBC on Oct. 11 at 10 p.m.
