'Criminal Minds' season 11: Dr. Reid personal life gets more screen time next season; Jane Lynch back as Diana Reid

Spencer Reid is undeniably a vital cog in the BAU think tank. Sadly, he is also the one with almost zero personal life. But all that is set to change in season 11 of "Criminal Minds."

A photo that was recently uploaded on "Criminal Minds'" official Twitter page smells like a big spoiler for what the writers are cooking up for the BAU's resident genius.

The photo shows Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) looking decidedly different. He has a curly mop of hair that is not in the style that he usually wears, big geeky glasses and a buttoned up shirt. His unusual get-up can be one of two things – he is wearing a disguise or he is dressed for a flashback scene that involves his younger self.

The flashback scene would make more sense as it has been reported that season 11 of the hit police procedural show will focus on Dr. Reid's personal life.

Gubler mentioned in a previous interview that he hoped his character would have some semblance of a normal life (and maybe even have a girlfriend) and it seems that the showrunners also think it is a good idea.

According to "Criminal Minds" producer, Erica Messer, it is time for Dr. Reid to move on from Maeve, his girlfriend who was killed off in season eight.

"It's been two years. Maeve is something that will never go away in his heart," Messer admits. "We want him to smile again and we think everybody else does too."

There has been some buzz that the team's newest member, Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler), might be the one to capture the elusive genius' heart. Given that Dr. Lewis' background means there is a solid head in between her shoulders and the two will be working closely together in the BAU, it is likely that sparks would soon fly.

There have also been rumblings that "Glee's" Jane Lynch, who portrays Diana Reid, will also be back as a recurring character next season. Diana's schizophrenia has been one of the driving forces that made Reid who he is. And with Lynch's alleged return, there will be more chances to get to know Dr. Reid better.

"Criminal Minds" season 11 is set to return to the small screen on Sept. 23 on CBS.
