'Deadpool 2' news, release date: Fans petition for Quentin Tarantino in wake of director Tim Miller's exit

"Deadpool 2" has just lost its director. Tim Miller, who helmed the original film, has reportedly left the film due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds. Following his departure, fans are now campaigning for Quentin Tarantino to take his place.
According to Deadline, Miller and Reynolds had disagreed creatively, but the former's exit was apparently amicable. His involvement as director in the sequel had reportedly not been formalized with a contract signing, but his return was basically a done deal until his rift with Reynolds.
The first "Deadpool" film exceeded expectations greatly, both commercially and critically. According to Box Office Mojo, it had brought in a worldwide gross of over $780 million. The feat came as a surprise to many, especially because of the film's R rating. "Deadpool" proved that there is a market for R-rated superhero films and that movies like it can still shatter box office records.
Now, the question remains: Who will replace Miller in the director's chair?
Fans have taken to Change.org to start a petition to have Tarantino helm the sequel. The acclaimed director is known for his particularly brutal action films and directing style. His films almost always feature violence, most notably "Kill Bill," "Inglorious Basterds," "The Hateful Eight," "Pulp Fiction," and "Django Unchained," the latter two of which won him Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay.
The petition has earned over 3,400 supporters as of writing. "If there was ever a chance to see Tarantino do a project almost guaranteed to make a billion dollars, this is it," the description reads. "Imagine having a guy like Tarantino write dialogue for The Merc with the Mouth! It would be so glorious."
But Miller's exit was also met with disappointment from many. "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn took to his Twitter account to express his thoughts on the matter, saying he's "bummed."
Honestly bummed about Tim Miller leaving Deadpool. He did an amazing job with the first one; I’d like to have seen where he’d go next.
