'Deadpool 2' news: Ryan Reynolds reunites with creative team; crossover with Spider-Man in discussion

Fox has officially green-lit "Deadpool 2." Although the sequel was only recently confirmed, it has been long expected, given the massive success of "Deadpool." The movie, despite being R-rated, was able to gross over $757.9 million, making it the third highest-grossing film this year.

During the CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider confirmed that a sequel is in development. Star Ryan Reynolds will be reuniting with the entire "Deadpool" creative team, including director Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

At this time, no plot details have been released. However, the end credits have hinted that the sequel will feature Cable. In the Marvel comics, both Cable and Deadpool were members of the X-Force. As such, fans are also speculating that the sequel may incorporate the X-Force into the plot.

In an interview with Crave Online, Miller and producer Simon Kinberg also discussed the possibility of having a crossover with Spider-Man. However, Sony recently made a deal with Disney for the character to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fox, on the other hand, retains rights to the X-Men Universe.

"I would someday, in part, heal the rift between the world of X-Men and the world of Avengers," Miller shared.

"There's so much crossover in the comic, it would be neat to one day see those characters share a movie. Both of us are actually quite close with Kevin [Fiege of Marvel] and have a profound amount of respect for what he does and it would be fun to all team up one day somehow together if that could work," Kinberg added.

While no release date has been announced, Fox has already reserved Oct. 6, 2017 and Jan. 12, 2018 for its upcoming Marvel films. Thus, "Deadpool 2" is likely to take one of these slots.

While the sequel won't be out for some time, fans can instead look forward to the release of "Deadpool" on Blu-ray and DVD this May 10.
