Green-lighting "Deadpool 2" came as a no-brainer following its predecessor's record-breaking grand entrance into movie theaters and immensely positive feedback earlier this year. And since then, news surrounding the sequel has been heavily covered—one of which has to do with the casting of an actor to play Cable, whose inclusion was confirmed by Deadpool himself in a post-credits scene.

So far, three big names have expressed their interest in bringing the time travelling mutant to life. Stephen Lang took to his Twitter page to voice out his desire to play Cable. Since then, many of his fans have been campaigning for him to get the part, with Lang himself pushing for it as well. His Twitter page is full of posts concerning the role.

On the other hand, Dolph Lundgren has also revealed to Nerdist that he is interested in playing the part. Lundgren saw the first "Deadpool" movie and was impressed. Interestingly enough, in the after credits scene, the Merc with a Mouth included Lundgren's name in the list of people who could potentially play Cable, along with Mel Gibson and Keira Knightley.

Most recently though, Ron Perlman, known for his roles in "Hellboy" and "Sons of Anarchy," has also thrown his hat in the race. Perlman took to his Instagram account and posted numerous photos of him alongside the character. Additionally, renditions of Perlman in full Cable gear made by fans have also been posted.

The role is highly coveted and understandably so, considering the first film became an unexpected hit. Currently, however, no announcements have been made so it is uncertain who will eventually land the role.

What is certain though is that the creative minds behind "Deadpool" will be given more room to explore in the sequel. Producer Simon Kinberg told Den of Geek that for the upcoming film, "we'll have even more creative freedom going forward." Aside from that, Kinberg also noted that an increase in budget might be ahead.

"Deadpool 2" has not been given an official release date as of writing.
