According to 3news, Guillermo Del Toro has been in close contact with Warner Bros. producers in developing the live-action version of the comic book. However, it was revealed that "Justice League Dark" might have schedule conflicts with "Pacific Rim 2."

Del Toro has also confirmed and explained why he left the "Justice League Dark" production. He told TheDailyBeast.com,

"Warners liked the script, they were very enthusiastic and wanted to green-light it but they wanted it to coincide with the shoot of Pacific Rim 2. I was put in a very difficult place facing a difficult choice, and I chose to do Pacific Rim 2."

"Pacific Rim 2" is slated to start shooting in November to uphold its 2017 scheduled release date.

While there is no word yet on the actual plot of the sequel, the director was quick to point out that the design team is already hard at work creating new robots and "Kaijus" for the upcoming sequel. Del Toro told Yahoo, "We are deep into designing the robots, the Kaijus, having fun planning the battles. We have an epic battle at the end [that] we started designing a couple of weeks ago."

Latinpost.com has also reported that the film will take place a couple of years after the events that transpired during the first movie. There has been no confirmation on whether or not the cast from the first movie will reprise their roles in the sequel. However, Del Toro hints that Charlie Day will return as Dr. Newton Geiszler.

Warner Bros. is choosing to stay mum and has not yet released any announcements regarding the development of "Justice League Dark," as well as updates on who would be taking the director's chair now that Del Toro has officially left and vacated the position.

"Pacific Rim 2" is  scheduled to hit movie theaters on Aug. 4, 2017.
