The Dragon Ball franchise never gets old. And they have proven this again with the recent American theater release of its nineteenth animated film, "Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F" or also known as "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F." The movie, despite dropping only in some theaters, is doing very well in the box office.

"Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F" premiered in 901 theaters last Aug. 4 and has already earned over $4 million dollars in the few days it has been out. At the rate it is going, it is set to overthrow the record set by 2005's Japanese feature film, "Howl's Moving Castle."

"Howl's Moving Castle" is from the popular Japanese animated studio, Studio Ghibli, and created by legendary Hayao Miyazaki. It reached American shores via Disney and played for weeks, earning itself $4.7 million, which placed it on the tenth spot in the Top Anime Films in terms of domestic release.

This makes "Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F's" performance more remarkable, given that the latest Dragon Ball Z movie is only going to be out in theaters until Aug. 12. The number of theaters it shows at has also dropped to only 246, but it still managed to gain $400,000 in ticket sales.

If it continues in this pace, "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F" may also beat the number nine movie in the list, another Miyazaki film called "The Wind Rises."

The latest "Dragon Ball Z" film is based on the original TV series by Akira Toriyama and is a direct sequel of the movie "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods," where Frieza died. In the new movie, Frieza's minions have successfully revived some of his pieces and he is now seeking revenge over Goku and Trunks by aiming for a "Golden Frieza" status.

"Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F" will also only be showing in lesser theaters come Sunday to make way for other studio film releases of the week. There will only be 154 theaters showcasing the film starting on Sunday but numbers will rise to 800 on Tuesday as it prepares for its last few showing dates.
