Marshall Mathers, the rapper widely known as Eminem, is rumored to be working on a new album to be released sometime this year. However, these rumors seem to be based on his fans' desire for new music rather than the rapper's official representation.

It has been three years since Eminem's last album released. "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" was positively received by critics and housed songs "Rap God," "The Monster," and "Headlights."

Despite not releasing a new album since 2013, the rapper has been spending a lot of time inside the studio. Eminem recently worked on the official soundtrack for the movie "Southpaw" last year. Aside from being the executive producer, he also featured on two tracks — "Phenomenal" and "Kings Never Die" — with Gwen Stefani.

Eminem's last public appearance was during his Lollapalooza performance in Buenos Aires, Argentina last March 18. According to Billboard, the rapper performed hits including "The Monster," "The Way You Lie," "Without Me," "Til I Collapse," "One Shot," and "White America."

Although Eminem has not made any official announcement regarding an upcoming album, his most ardent fans are hoping that the rapper is simply lying low and may choose to surprise his fans with a finished product later on. On the other hand, it is also possible that Eminem is waiting to be inspired.

During a Conspiracy Worldwide podcast last year, Eminem collaborator and D12 groupmate Denaun Porter revealed that new music from the rapper may not be in the cards any time soon.

"I don't think – Em doesn't work like that. He's gotta feel that there's things to talk about and things to say. I mean, he's working on some other things that I know of: He's working on a Slaughterhouse project that's gotta come out; Yelawolf's album's out, and it's super duper dope — I'm proud of him," Porter revealed.

Given that Eminem remains fairly active on his official Twitter account, fans should stay tuned in case he does decide to make an official album announcement.
