'Empire' season 3 news: Jamal may not be in next season

(Facebook / Empire)One Lyon has been teased to fall and Jussie Smollett expresses his gratitude to the show after his character Jamal was shot.

The penultimate episode has given fans something to worry about as one of the main and favorite characters was shot. Jamal took a bullet for Lucious after seeing Freda aiming a gun at his father. Season 2 finale is titled "Past Is Prologue" where closures to story arcs are expected to happen, as well as hints on the upcoming season.

Rhonda suspects Anika is the perpetrator who pushed her down the stairs, which led to the loss of her baby. And while it seems logical for Anika to commit the crime, a bigger twist is expected to be revealed. The revelation is speculated to be the jumping-off point for season 3.

Meanwhile, what worries the fans more with regard to Jamal's fate is actor Jussie Smollett's tweets after the episode was aired. He was actively tweeting throughout the episode and eventually got emotional.

In one post he said, "This scene with one of my acting idols @terrencehoward was so damn difficult but so real. #empire"

It was followed by, "I said this earlier but all I could do after that scene w @terrencehoward is embrace& say I love you. We rewrote that scene together.#empire"

At that point, it only seemed like he was deeply moved by story, but then he tweeted, "This is why we must watch how we treat people. We never know how long they have. Just in the blink of an eye. Gone. #empire"

And he seemed to bid the show goodbye with, "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with @EmpireFox. I love you all. Truth. Time 2 make a record & some movies. #Empire"

Viewers are torn with the development because there are others who believe he is trying to pull a Jon Snow. No details about season 3 have been announced and fans are hoping that Smollett's schedule will allow him to work on different projects at the same time, if schedule were not an issue.
