(FACEBOOK/Empire)"Empire" season three will see a different Cookie as she bounces back from Lucious' betrayal

There are so many stories to be told when "Empire" season three premieres and it's getting clearer that Lucious' decision to marry Anika will bounce back on him as his relationship with Cookie crumbles.

Before Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious (Terrence Howard) saw their marriage fail, they were just teenagers who each had their own dreams and aspirations. The upcoming installment will look deeper into the Lyon heads' roots.

Deadline confirms that Ajiona Alexus has been cast to play the young Cookie, while Jeremy Carver will play Lucious as a teen. The characters are recurring so fans will definitely see them again in the near future even after the third season of "Empire" wraps up.

The young Cookie is an innocent girl who goes to a Catholic school. However, there's something inside her that says the world she's in is not what she really wants. Then comes the young Lucious, whose stunning voice and bad-boy personality strikes Cookie's heart.

Fast forward to the present, Cookie and Lucious were supposedly going to start all over again. However, his mistakes from the past caught up to him and he had to tie the knot with Anika (Grace Gealey), much to Cookie's surprise and heartbreak. She then walked out on Lucious and fans will have to wait and see how Cookie's departure from Lucious' life affects the Lyons.

In an interview with TV Line last month, showrunner Ilene Chaiken revealed that Cookie's decision to end all hopes for a reconciliation with Lucious is truly it this time. "The family is together, the company is together, and Lucious and Cookie will be in one another's faces and lives, but her [being finished with Lucious] is going to color everything."

Based on Chaiken's comments, it is safe to assume that Cookie will come back with a vengeance. Knowing how she's handled things in the past, there's no stopping a broken heart, especially since she had genuinely hoped before everything went down in the finale of season two that her relationship with Lucious will be fixed.

"Empire" season three premieres September 21 on FOX.
