MTV's teen drama "Finding Carter" has just aired its season 2 finale, which was full of shocking twists and a cliffhanger ending. Unfortunately, the show has yet to be renewed for a third season.

"Finding Carter" chronicles the journey of Carter, who in the first season discovered that she had been abducted as a child. In season 2, the show decided to focus more on Carter's relationships rather than the abduction storyline. 

According to executive producer Emily Whitesell, "You can't just continue to tell stories about a girl who was kidnapped. That was her story but she settled into a new life and moved on. Yes, everything she does for the rest of her life will be colored by where she came from, but that story runs out." 

During the final moments of season 2, Max surrendered to the police after accidentally killing Carter's boyfriend, Jared. At first, Lori tried to protect Max by taking the blame. However, Max was wracked with guilt and tried to do the right thing. Unfortunately, his fate hung in the balance as the episode ended with a cliffhanger. 

While discussing the cliffhanger, Whitesell revealed, "We came up with many, many different ideas and this was the one we all agreed on." 

Season 2 of "Finding Carter" has struggled in terms of ratings and the show is still waiting to hear if it will be renewed. If the show does continue, however, Whitesell has provided hints on what's to come.

According to Whitesell, there are still many possible options on how to deal with Max's current storyline. The show will not focus too much on the legal aspect of the story, but will try to show how Max killing Jared was just an accident and he was only trying to protect Carter. 

Twin sisters Carter and Taylor will also disagree on how to deal with Max. Their once close relationship will take a hit as they want different things for Max. 

While Carter is still affected by the loss of Jared, the upcoming season may also find Carter and Crash reuniting. Despite their break-up, the feelings between the two have never really faltered.

"They have a very deep bond and I'd love to play with what that means to her moving forward," said Whitesell.
