'Game of Thrones' season 7 plot spoilers: Cersei's mindset in focus

(HBO)Cersei Lannister is back on her throne, but is revenge worth it now that all her children are dead?

The sixth season is a very successful one not only because it kept the audiences satisfied and wanting for more but also because it is the first season where there was no road map to base the series from. There are so many characters whose story could only get better in the next season and one of them is Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). Cersei has gone through hell so to speak as she descended from the throne the last seasons, and, in season 6 finale, she is back to relinquish her place on the throne. It comes with a big price, however, as claiming she has lost all heirs and sanity so it seems.

In an interview with Deadline, co-creator and co-writer D.B. Weiss revealed, "That's what so much of next season is going to be about; finding out what Cerse's mind-set is. Who is she? While Cersei has certainly done a lot of horrible things in her life and she could be a very cruel person, the one thing that was redemptive about her was that she genuinely loved her children."

Cersei has definitely been one villain that many viewers hated to love and loved to hate. She has always been conniving and treacherous and seemingly devoid of human emotions since the series started, but viewers see a different woman when matters concern her children. While there's little Cersei could do to prevent the death of her children, Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free), she has indirectly caused the death of Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman).

Cersei lived for her children more than she did for herself. All the things she has done were to protect and ensure her children's future at a time when bastards have little to no claim to power. Now that she is back in power but without any living children to benefit the crown, co-creator and co-writer David Benioff said she will be left to look back on the things she has done. He said, "If she had been more focused on her family, and less on enjoying her revenge on someone who had done her wrong, then Tommen's suicide probably never would have happened."

Another major revelation is the finale was Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) true parentage. It is not much of a revelation because hints of the truth have been evident in both the book and the series but rather a confirmation. Jon is now rightful heir to two kingdoms, but when he finds out or what happens when others find out will be one subplot many are looking forward to as well.
