'Game of Thrones' season 7 release date: Liam Cunningham teases July premiere

HBO's TV adaptation "Game of Thrones" is definitely returning this year for the penultimate season of the show. It, however, will not be returning this April, like it usually does.

In an interview with "Game of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham, who portrays Ser Davos, he teased that it might be back this summer. More importantly, he shared that the network is brewing something special for the premiere. Little is known about the special event, but fans are reportedly crossing their fingers for a double-episode premiere.

"I've been disappointing various people around the world because it was meant to come out in April," Cunningham revealed before adding, "It's July now, I think. There's going to be a launch and something special happening this year for the premiere. The bad news is, there will only be seven episodes and the [filming for the] final season starts again as far as I know in September."

While fans are clamoring for more updates, actor Ian McShane, whose character revived the Hound, strongly asserted that fans of the series should get a life. McShane believes that fans identify with "Game of Thrones" too closely.

McShane previously received some flak for revealing an important part of the previous season. The actor previously revealed that his character was going to revive someone who has been presumed dead.

Production for the upcoming season started out late last year. With winter coming to the series this season, the cast and crew had to film late to make the most out of the winter weather. The cast have also just recently wrapped up filming for the current season. It might take a while before fans will receive a trailer.

HBO has yet to set a launch date for "Game of Thrones" season 7, but it is expected to launch sometime this summer.
