'Girl Meets World' season 3 premiere spoilers: Riley, Maya, and their friends face new challenges in high school; who will Luke choose between the two friends?

('Girl Meets World' Writers Room / Twitter)"Girl Meets World" enters a new world in high school.

Maya, Riley, and their friends are growing up and getting ready to meet one of their biggest challenges to date — high school.

"Girl Meets World" season 3 will see Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga's (Danielle Fishel) daughter and her friends moving to high school and experiencing all the changes and challenges that it entails.

Some of these challenges are shown in a recently released trailer for the show. The short clip shows Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Maya (Sabrina Carpenter), Lucas (Peyton Meyer), and the rest of the gang excited for the start of the school year. But it's clear they're also scared as they're initially seen holding on to each other in their new school's busy hallway. A scene between Riley and Maya certainly shows one of the biggest challenges people experience in high school — holding on to their friends. The two best friends are seen holding each other's hands, promising each other that "no matter what happens, we'll always stick together" just as they're forced apart by a throng of students who are passing by. The clip also teases that the friendship between Riley, Maya, and Lucas might also change as the young man tells Riley that she's "too much for me."

The enigmatic statement seems to suggest that Lucas might not be choosing Riley after all. On the other hand, it also doesn't mean that he'll be choosing Maya. There's always the possibility that Lucas might not choose anyone and just opt to remain friends with the two.

A love triangle certainly doesn't seem to be in the cards as far as "Girl Meets World" co-creator Michael Jacobs is concerned. At least, not a love triangle in the usual sense. In his interview with The Wrap, Jacobs said there's something bigger at play than the perceived triangle between Riley, Maya, and Lucas and says that the show's "Girl Meets" angle means that love would not be discussed in just one episode.

"It would be a sustained series of episodes in an attempt to explain, for this generation, what the perception of love is, versus what love may actually be, versus are we ready for that at all," Jacobs explained. "Something that is so important cannot be something we tell in one story."

The two-part premiere episode of "Girl Meets World" season 3 will be aired sometime in June on Disney.
